Sherlock Holmes

10 or so Reasons why I am excited to see Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes

1. Its a Guy Ritchie movie
Guy Ritchie is one of my favorite directors, his movies Snatch. Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and RocknRolla are some of my favorite all time movies. This basis alone would be enough for me to want to watch the movie

2. Robert Downey JR is starring in it
ever since I saw him Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and of course Iron Man I thought RDJ was not only an exceptionally brilliant actor but also v v hot. this basis alone would be enough for me to want to watch the movie

2. Mark Strong is in it, and he plays the bad guy
I just really like Mark Strong. especially in Guy Ritchie movies, particularly in RocknRolla. and also in Body of Lies. man now i really want to watch Body of Lies, but fast forward to all the Hani Pasha scenes

3. Jude Law and Rachel McAdams are in it
I like these two, they are cute
4. its a Guy Ritchie movie
nough said

5. given the trailers it looks like its going to be a really good movie full of action, drama, mystery, comedy, RDJ, etc...

6. I know nothing about Sherlock Holmes so everything will be new and nothing will be ruined
7. I love period pieces and this is one.
yay old pretty clothes

8. Robert Downey Jr is in it
nough said

9. It gives me a reason to not go to the houses of people-I-dislike-but-would-otherwise-have-to-visit-because-of-the-holiday on Christmas

10. It has the potential to be epic and a franchise. and an epic franchise. also Robert Downey Jr is in a Guy Ritchie movie!!

that being said, the viral for the movie while interesting is getting annoying. I just want to solve the whole fricking crime already and see whats up. hope it isn't the same type of crime as in the movie. and no i do not like to capitalize words.

U2, I love you

Mega group U2 held a concert last night at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. The place was jam packed. Seriously there were so many people, it would have been the ultimate, not to mention hardest game of "where's waldo". This is not unusual, as U2 often, if not always plays such large, sold out shows. What made yesterday's concert special was that the whole thing was broadcast/streamed live on youtube.com. Estimates are that nearly 40 million people all over the world tuned in to the livecast. I was one of them. The concert was magnificent, and there are no words to describe it. And having been only somewhat acquainted with their music, but loving Bono for all he does in the world. After watching the concert, I can proudly say that I am now a fan of U2. I love thir music, and I love Bono even more. Also The Edge is a really cool guy.

An open letter to Michael Bay

Dear Michael Bay,
I think you are a great director and I love your movies. I disagree with others when they say your movies are just things exploding. While this may be mostly true I believe that this is what makes your movies fun, and entertaining. Several movies of yours are on my list of all time favorites, with Armageddon being my favorite Bay movie of all time, and top 30 fave movies ever. I think you are talented and that you can do more than just make things blow up really good. Hell, I still cry every time I watch Armageddon or Pearl Harbor. I also laugh and applaud.

Transformers and its sequel are really terrific movies, with only 1 minor annoyance. Said annoyance comes in the form of one named megan fox. I refuse to capitalize her name, btw. There are many rumors about you killing her off in the next movie as a result of the things she said bashing you and the crew and consequently the crew bashing her ( I agree with the crew). Considering that she really cant act and is nothing more than "eye candy" for the juvenal boys who watch your movies, I think Transformers 3 would benefit from her absence. Killing her off might even make Shia Lebouff show some emotion on screen. Also, if you kill her, you can get another totally hot but useless chick to be the eye candy, just please no more orange people like that girl who turns into a Decepticon in pt2. Maybe you can even get a smart, tough, hot chick to be the girlfriend/sidekick. Additionally if you do decide to kill fox off, please have Optimus Prime step on her or something as that would be totally awesome.

Chris Nashawaty from EW's Popwatch sums it up pretty nicely, and I agree:

Who knows if any of this is true, but it’s sure fun to think it might be.

This week, there have been reports on the internet that Transformers director Michael Bay is so ticked off at Megan Fox’s repeated swipes at him in the press that he’s planning on killing off her character in the first 15 minutes of the next Transformers movie. Petty? Sure. Vindictive? Absolutely. Delicious payback? And how.

Since Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen hit theaters back in June, Fox — an actress who no one had ever heard of before Bay cast her in the first Autobots/Decepticons smackdown– has called her boss “a d—” and compared him to Hitler. And when I interviewed her this past summer, she called him a sadist and said that working with Bay “is not about an acting experience.” Nice.

I get it. Being a loose cannon is part of her bad-girl, tattooed, Jessica Rabbit appeal. But there is such a thing as being ungrateful, right? So if Bay really does plan on having her onscreen alterego — Mikaela Banes — impaled by a shape-shifting Camaro or Mack truck that turns into a can opener or whatever, can you really blame the guy?

In conclusion keep making awesome movies, but hire people who would be grateful and courteous.

sincerely,
a girl who loves your movies (shocking I know)

ETA: Over at Cinematical they have some suggestions as to how it could be accomplished. I like them all. : )

random movie thoughts

1. Saw Angels & Demons when it came out. It was great. I loved it. I think I loved t more than the book just cuz it was faster, and eliminated some of the chunky random parts of the book. I thought all the changes they made just added to the movie and made it better. Also Ewan McGreggor was great as the Camerlengio.

2. I really liked Angels & Demons, and The Da Vinci Code books (and the movies obviously) and am really excited for the next Robert Langdon book by Dan Brown. Its called The Lost Symbol and it comes out in September. The movie studio and people behind TDVC and A&D already opioned it and bought the rights, so it will be made into a movie. yay.

3. Also saw Terminator Salvation when it came out. I dont know what all the people are bitching about. I thought it was great. Sure it could have been better, but it was still awesome. I thougth Sam Worthington was great as Marcus (and hot, and badass). Christian Bale of course was hella great as John Connor. Bryce Dallas Howards looked really pretty as Kate. Moon Bloodgood didnt look like herself. Seeing CG 1985 era Arnold ws hilarious. Yelchin was decent as Kyle Reece, and pretty beleivable. All in all it was a good, kick ass movie.

4. After watching Terminator Salvation, I started quesioning their world. This only made my head hurt as to question the Terminator universe and all its paradigms is to question...um something mind bottling (yes mind bottling ala Zoolander). So one of the main questions I had was how would Skynet know they had to kill Kyle Reece? I dont think they or anyone but John Connor know that Reece is his father. Also how would tye know to kill Sarah Connor? Did John go advertisising that she is his mother, or did Skynet hack old hospital records. Is that how they found that Reece is the father? When did Skynet invent the time machine and all those laser and plasma guns from T1 that we dont see in TS which takes place only 11 years before? AHHHHH too many questions. Dont even get me started on the paradigms that arise from this.

5. Anyway moving on.

6. The Hangover is hilarious. and epic. enough said.

7. Am excited for Transformers 2. A Michael Bay movie with giant robots from space that transform into cars and stuff, loud explosions and no brain power neccessary? Im all for it. I love Michael Bay movies. I have to admit that it is wrong that he is sterotyped for making big loud dumb movies. Sure he may make those types of movies, but he makes them like no other. His movies are awesome. I love them. 2 of them actually make me cry, and all of them make me laugh. Its just too bad that Megan Fox is in Transformers. I hate her cuz she is annoying, and a slut who cant act.

8. July will be a great movie month as both Public Enemies (Johnny Depp as John Dilinger... awesome.) and Harry Potter 6 come out in July.

viral marketing

Lets face it, the future is here. Hahahah. Im talking about the future of advertising, and specifically movie advertising. The greatest viral marketing campaign was for The Dark Knight. The creators went far and wide to engage the fan hordes and the campaign was truly one of the most inventive things I have seen. Now with the bar raised so high, other movies and their studios are trying to follow. One that has potential is Terminator Salvation as several websites linked to Skynet and the Resistance have been set up. There hasnt been too much activity, until today when Skynet sent out an email about the strange audio interference on the website. When slowed down, the audio revealed to be a cryptic message from resistance fighters. TheBadandUgly.com has a rundown of what Im talking about. Interesting and confusing so far. But like I said it has the potential to be great.

of Watchmen and Terminators

So Watchmen (both the graphic novel and the Zack Snyder film) were fantastic. I really loved the graphic novel and think that Snyder did a really good job of adapting into a movie and that he stayed as true to the original as he could have without making a 5 hr movie and that he changed/added/deleted the right things (except for Ozy's famous line at the end which was sub par in the movie but kick ass in the GN; and the lack of the ____ while understandable was kind of a bummer since while reading the GN at that part I was all like OMG WTF HAHAHAHAH WOW). So yeah definitely check out both the GN and the movie.
Also go watch Snyder's adaptation of Frank Miller's 300. Ahhhmazing.

So I am really excited about the new Terminator movie, since I really like the first 2 (and wish that T3 never existed) and I really like Christian Bale. :) So when he was cast as John Connor I knew I would have to watch this movie on fricking opening day. Which brings me to this little tidbit: Even in doll format, er sorry action figure format, John Connor looks like he could kick some robot ass. While I do not collect dolls, there are certainly some, like this one, that make me want to start. Of course I would have to become a billionaire first.

of reviews and fights

Hamlet 2 was funny and really really random. But it had a good message (freedom of speech, never give up, etc), which made the movie have a point as opposed to just being another dumb comedy/parody. Coogan is hilarious as the failed actor turned HS drama teacher who writes a sequel to Hamlet including a time travel machine and Jesus. The rest of the cast is also funny, except that the character of Epiphany annoyed me to the point of wanting to smack her upside the head, but that is hardly the actresses fault. lol. Overall if you are looking for a funny and easy to watch movie that doesn't make you think too hard but still has an underlying message that is very important, then check out Hamlet 2.

And now for the verdict on Durden v Hemingway:
Hemingway is old school tough, and has a shot gun, (and probably all other sorts of such things,) while Durden has his psychotic behavior nd fighting skill. Sorry Durden, as much as I love you (in a way that one loves such an amazing, dynamic, psychotic, fictional character [who in the movie Fight Club is smoking hot thanks to being embodied by Brad Pit]) you just cant win when you go against a shotgun in the hands of a skilled hunter. Ernest Hemingway would win.

PS: Watchmen (both the graphic novel and the movie) is effing awesome.

PS2: am really x infinity excited for the following movies (in no particular order) (several of which come out in May, my birthday month)
Harry Potter 6, Angels & Demons, Wolverine, Transformers 2, Terminator: Salvation, ...and a few others I cant exactly remmember/think of right now, alas this list shall have to be updated :)
